It's hard to figure out what Richard Sandomir, who writes about sports and television for the NY Times, was blathering about in his column today. He seems to be complaining that Fox's # 1 announcer, Joe Buck, has called his last baseball game on the network until the postseason...due to his # 1 NFL duties taking over for a while...and he hasn't done that much baseball this season...and this is not good because in the old days of the Gowdys, Garagiolas, and Scullys, we had more "continuity" in our lead baseball announcers and Sandomir misses that.
But, hmmm...does anyone not know who Joe Buck is? Does any baseball buff not know he's the # 1 baseball guy at Fox? Is Fox losing audience due to Buck's absence? (I haven't heard that it is.) We know he'll be back for the postseason, right? Buck suggested in the article that this reduced schedule of his gives him a chance to spend more time with his family; in response to which, Sandomir wrote...nothing.
If Joe Buck is having a chance to spend more time with the family, seems to me he deserves praise, not griping. Is it really so terrible that Buck won't be doing late-August, dog-days baseball? Please.
