Well, so now it's election day. And again, let's not kid ourselves: no, it ain't over until it's over, but every poll seems to indicate that Barack Obama will become our nation's first African-American president-elect later tonight...
For conservatives, it's not what we wanted. Barack Obama is most decidedly not a conservative.
But that doesn't mean there's nothing to look forward to. Let's remember some fundamentals, both today in the days to come. We can start with:
1] Remember, we're conservatives. We don't believe that happiness or fulfillment comes from the state, or from this or that party being in control of the state. We believe that happiness comes from higher things and from within ourselves. Elections come and go. Meanwhile, we go about our business...
And 2] Let's remember too that, hey, it can be a good thing for us to be in opposition for a while. We can do some re-thinking and analyzing. We can watch the Obama-style moderate-to-hard liberalism fail, as surely it will, in many ways. Maybe the American people will need to see liberalism fail again. They've forgotten what it's like. It's important to remind them.
