And you see that in several stories over the past couple of days:
The Cleveland Browns are only 3-5; they thought they would be a playoff team. So--Derek Anderson out at QB, Brady Quinn in.
The Detroit Pistons over the past five years have won an NBA title, been to the Finals the year after that, advanced at least to the conference finals five straight years, and won 284 games, 3rd best in the league, all basically with the same core group. But three straight years they've been beaten in the conference finals. So, gone is Chauncey Billups--and to Detroit comes Allen Iverson.
At the University of Tennessee, Philip Fulmer has won a ton of games, a bunch of bowl games, and a national championship. But his team has struggled this year; so at the end of this season, he will step down.
Two NFL coaches have already been fired this year, Scott Linehan and Mike Nolan. Tyrone Willingham has been forced to resign at the end of this season by the University of Washington.
The pressure to win, and win now, is as strong as ever.
