Not a great way to win anyone's sympathy dept

Her lawyers want some sympathy for Britney Spears: "Britney Spears is a pop star, and you're not. That was the fallback position of Spears' camp during the latest custody hearing Thursday regarding the, well, pop star's two sons. Spears attorney Anne Kiley told the court that the, yes, pop star has failed to heed every call to the drug-test lab because she is a, yes, "pop star," who thusly is often out late at night, and frequently asleep when the drug-test lab rings in the morning. Additionally, Kiley said, Spears' pop-star stature requires her to frequently change phone numbers in order to make it harder for fans to track her down. The downside is that Spears' game of musical numbers also makes it harder for the drug lab to track her down."

Such a hard life!

Give credit where credit is due

On the pop culture scene--who's had more bad news lately than Britney Spears?
But guess what: her new album...is good!: "But Spears emerges on “Blackout” as the antithesis of her tabloid persona — confident, sensual, and in control."

Given all the negativity (much of which she created for herself), that shows real fortitude.
Good for her.

An alternative view of Britney Spears

From the always interesting and provocative Ben Stein of the American Spectator, from a few weeks ago. Did you catch it? Good men and women battle terrorism and famine and criminals every day. And yet...Quote:

Okay. This country has now gone completely insane. It is Saturday night August 11, 2007. I am in the most wonderful place on this earth, Sandpoint, Idaho, looking out at the moonlit (slightly) Lake Pend Oreille, listening to the BNSF freight trains rolling by, and what do I see and hear as the lead item on CNN Headline News at midnight?Nancy Grace urgently telling us that Britney Spears is endangering her children's lives by (and I am not making this up):1.) Giving them soda and fruit juices in baby bottles, thereby endangering their teeth.2) Giving them high fat snacks like Doritos instead of fruits and vegetables.3.) Taking the kids with her on her lap in the car.4) Not always having their child seats attached properly. That's right. Because Britney is a normal human being, not a Stalinist mind controlled, food police approved, Whole Foods Bolshevized perfect new Soviet woman mommy, but is a normal mother like other mothers, the media is howling for her head. This is insanity, pure and simple.

Closing the barn door after...

Headline: "Britney (Spears), Kevin (Federaline) Seek Media Blackout."
They worry about the effect of all this on the kids.
Hmmm---might be a little late to be worrying about all that now.

K-Fed's window into celeb thinking and culture

So Kevin Federline wants to be a good father to his two children, it's reported today. Good. Er, well...his lawyer says K-Fed "is focused on giving their two young sons a secure upbringing outside the media glare so they can “pretend they’re like everyone else...” Good luck at "pretending" that. His lawyer also told the AP: "'He doesn’t want to do anything that would be perceived as taking her down a peg,” Kaplan said. “His goal is to keep things between him and Britney private. There’s a proper forum to discuss issues with a co-parent. That place is not in the public eye.” Yes, well, I guess that's why K-Fed's lawyer was discussing these issues in the public eye.

The celeb world is one where they have their publicists go out repeatedly in public to say they don't want to be in the public eye.
