FAVORITE TEAMS UPDATE: hey, in the NBA playoffs, what's been the biggest surprise, aside from the unbelievable overtime/thriller-fest that's become the Bulls/Celtics series?
Easy--the Dallas Mavericks, with their convincing win over the San Antonio Spurs in round one.
No, I didn't forget about them. It was just hard to find different ways to sound impressed. But as the linked article says, the keys to the series were not what you'd expect--it wasn't Dirk Nowitzki going off game after game for 40 pts, etc. Rather, it was Mavs' role players stepping up, and that the team played solid defense.
This team is dangerous. They finished the regular season strong, and now they're playing with a lot of confidence, and with a sense they have something to prove. Watch out...
Hmmm. So Republicans are holding town meetings, and forming new organizations. A leader of one of these, called Resurgent Republic, says:
Ayres said his research shows that, "Americans are very skeptical about the amount of money that Mr. Obama is proposing to spend, tax and borrow for bailouts and other spending programs."
I think this is true. We need to keep hammering on this point.
By the way, on gay marriage: some folks say it will inevitably become legal everywhere, that Republicans are stupid to oppose it, that more and more people favor it, etc etc etc...but then there's this:
"Quinnipiac also found that on a straight-up "Would you support or oppose a law in your state that would allow same-sex couples to get married?" question, Americans oppose gay marriage 55 percent to 38 percent."
BASEBALL DIARY: the Tigers were off yesterday. The Texas Rangers didn't play a horrible game yesterday...but lost 4-2, mainly because A's CF Ryan Sweeney made a terrific catch on Ian Kinsler in the 8th, robbing him of a 3-run homer that likely would have won it. So it goes...
Meanwhile, the Cubs lost again--giving up 6 runs in the 10th and losing to Florida, 8-2. Really the culprit is that the Cubs aren't hitting, and they're booting the ball around too much in the field--Ryan Theriot made two errors, one of which let in the winning run
