Congress' spending soars and earmarks are everywhere
Remember how many Democrats, in 2006, campaigned against the Republican majority's wasteful spending and addicition to "earmarks"? So now that the Democrats are in control, how are they doing? Throwing money around like drunken sailors, as this analysis at All Things Conservative demonstrates in an examination of the Department of Justice's congressional budget allocation. The piece of the budget under the microscope here was all supposed to go to programs fighting violent crime; but instead, we see money going to mental health facilities, to programs to teach internet usage, to tiny communities (which happen to reside in the states of influential Democratic senators) with tiny populations; etc. Despite the rhetoric, nothing's changed. But then, we knew it wouldn't.
